Pain on the right side of the body: What could it mean?

Pain on the right side of the body is a common symptom with many possible causes. Often, it’s something minor—like a rib injury—that, while painful, fades without lasting effects. But other conditions may require more attention.

Appendicitis is one of the most serious possibilities. It starts with stomach pain near the navel that shifts to the lower right side. Symptoms like fever, appetite loss, and trouble standing may follow. Immediate medical care is crucial.

Constipation can also cause right-side pain due to blocked bowels. It’s often relieved by drinking water and eating more fiber.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) may cause bloating, gas, or abdominal pain. Adjusting eating habits and avoiding gas-producing foods can help.

Kidney stones develop silently, but when symptoms hit, they often include sharp right-side pain. Fluids and medication may help, but a doctor should confirm the cause.

Other possible causes include gallbladder issues, ulcers, pneumonia, food poisoning, and more. Because the reasons vary so widely, a doctor’s evaluation is key to getting proper treatment.
